Les Alizés has left the yard it was built in China and is steaming toward Europe. The heavy lift vessel owned by Jan De Nul will bring with it a new capacity sought after in the offshore wind market
Why do we care that another purpose-built vessel for the offshore wind market is delivered? Offshore wind is a new industry that has comprehensive, but fragile supply chain where the entire foundation of the supply chain is wobbly. There are only few vessels that can install the heavy components required for offshore wind and they are getting booked up fast. Getting a vessel like Les Alizés out in the market will ease some of the pressure, but the market still needs more vessels capable to install monopiles weighing 2000 ton plus. Les Alizés will operate in the US-European market where it will install, monopiles, jackets, pin piles, and offshore substations.
