RoRo January 2025 highlights:
Temperature gauge – Winds of change as T/C rates halve from their peak: The T/C market is declining more rapidly and significantly than anticipated. While challenges were expected, the pace of change has been notable.
Regional port call in January 2025, Europe: Polaris, which had 15 port calls in January 2025, announced the launch of its new Norway trade service starting this January.
Chinese operators’ commercial Footprint in January: BYD added a third vessel, the Hefei, in January 2025. With this latest addition, the fleet recorded 13 port calls in January, a 3x increase from last month.
Suez Canal Update in January: The total transits were 16, marking a 45% decrease from the 29 transits recorded year-over-year. Grimaldi led with 6 transits, followed by Samjoo with 5, and Liberty and Bahri with 2 each.
MPP January 2025 highlights:
Trade Route Insights – Far East to India (2024): NYK B&P dominated with 21% of traffic, averaging 2.7 sailings/month. ECL followed at 14%, with 1.8 sailings/month. Notable fluctuation in activity, lacking a clear trend.
Port time development in January: Between December and January, total port calls (deep-sea and short sea) decreased by 5% to 8,929 from 9,438, while average port time decreased by 3% to 2.18 days from 2.25 days, indicating reduced activity but more efficient processing times.
Regional Spotlight: Africa – East Coast: Port calls surged by 55.2% in January 2025 compared to January 2024. Despite increased activity, port waiting times dropped significantly by 25.5% YoY.
