RoRo September 2025 highlights:

Supply and Demand: Deep-sea fleet capacity has expanded by 20% since early 2023, providing additional space for vehicle shipments. Global vehicle sales have remained stable at 85–95 million over the past year, with no significant growth. 

Trade route analysis – Europe to South East Asia: Service frequency on the route has declined by around 45% from 2021 to 2025 (annualized). In H1 2025, MOL and K-Line accounted for 53% of sailings, up from 29% in 2021, reflecting operator consolidation with fewer carriers dominating activity.

Regional port call focus – Jebel Ali: The port hosts a mix of major operators, including NYK, MOL, Glovis, K-Line, Hoegh, COSCO, and Wallenius Wilhelmsen. YTD 2025 port calls grew 15–33% among these operators, with Hoegh posting a notable 64% increase from 22 to 36 calls.

Regional update: In September, Indian Subcontinent saw 95 deep-sea port calls, up 64% from September 2024. YTD port calls reached 640, a 31% increase from last year. In contrast, Gulf of Mexico region saw a decline, with 85 port calls in September 2025, down 10% from 94 a year earlier.

 

MPP September 2025 highlights:

Newbuildings: The multipurpose vessel (MPP) segment saw strong activity, with 68 vessels added in 2024 driven by fleet renewal and sustainability initiatives. Momentum continued in 2025, with 25 new vessels added by September.

Trade route analysis Far East to Europe: Sailings by the top 10 operators showed moderate fluctuations with an overall downward trend. The route recovered in 2024, and in 2025, the first two quarters reflected a slightly softer start while maintaining a stable service presence.

Regional port call focus – Mediterranean Sea: In Q3 2025, the most active deep-sea ports were Nemrut (39 calls), Alexandria (36), and Livorno (33). BigLift/Spliethoff led activity with 130 port calls, up 51% from 86 a year earlier, while BBC Chartering recorded 88 calls, down 24%.
