We’re proud to be working alongside Smart Freight Centre (SFC) to deliver a critical enabler for the Global Ro-Ro Community’s (GRC) latest emissions transparency initiative.

The GRC is a working group formed by Smart Freight Centre which primarily consists of vessel operators (carriers) and cargo owners which is used to develop methods and tools to track emissions and help with scope 3 emissions reporting. GRC has aligned on a collective solution: the creation of an emissions intensity table covering 27 specific trade lanes, with average emission factors per operator based on primary fuel data. These values will be derived from verified operator-submitted data, forming a common reference point for emissions performance across the Ro-Ro sector.

For this solution to function at scale – reliably, securely, and transparently, a purpose-built digital platform is essential.

That’s where Esgian steps in. We’re developing a platform for the GRC that will facilitate the entire data lifecycle:

✅ Structured submission from vessel operators

✅ Transparent and traceable verification

✅ Smart data processing pipelines

✅ Stakeholder-ready outputs and insights

As the frequency and precision of data submissions evolve, this system will scale with it—strengthening the foundation for accountability, benchmarking, and meaningful action on maritime emissions.

Esgian is already an SFC Accredited Partner since 2023 and are in methodological conformance with the GLEC Framework for modelled calculation scope within Global Ro-Ro and MPP modal coverage.

We are honored to be the chosen partner to design and deliver this platform, helping GRC members move toward a more transparent, data-driven, and sustainable future in Ro-Ro shipping.

This project is a great example of industry-led collaboration meeting focused digital execution.
