RoRo March 2025 highlights:

Trade Network Efficiency:

  • COSCO Shipping and Neptune Lines have partnered to establish a hub at Greece’s Piraeus Port, enhancing direct routes from China to Europe and optimizing vehicle shipping.

 

Port Update:

  • March saw a 9% decline in deep-sea calls YoY at the Port of Antwerp, with waiting times escalating from 0.5 to 8.5 days due to a nationwide strike causing significant disruptions.

 

Canals Update:

  • The Panama Canal recorded 72 transits in March, a 16% increase from February, while the Suez Canal saw 22 transits, a 144% surge from February, led by Samjoo with 6.

 

MPP March 2025 highlights:

Fleet Development:

  • China’s role in shipbuilding has grown significantly over the past decades. From 1984 to 2025, it has evolved from a minor player to the leading force in deep-sea MPP.
    By 2024, every deep-sea core vessel in our database — except BigLift’s FWN Antarctic — was built in China.

 

Trade Route Focus: Far East to US

  • New US tariffs are making waves. January–February 2025 saw 29 sailings, up 45% YoY — likely a result of cargo front-loading before enforcement.

 

Canals Activity in March:

  • Suez Canal transits rebounded 26%, returning to January levels, driven by COSCO, BBC Chartering, Ocean 7 Projects.
