Foundation installation, cable installation, and foundation manufacturing work awarded by Vattenfall and BASF for Nordlicht 1 and 2.
The Nordlicht 1 and 2 contracts are taking shape, with a significant amount of work being awarded to DEME, Jan de Nul, EEW SPC, and CS WIND Offshore. The projects are expected to have a total capacity of 1,650 MW, generated by 112 15 MW turbines from Vestas. DEME has been awarded the monopile and transition piece (TP) installation, with monopiles being manufactured by EEW SPC and TPs by CS WIND Offshore. The heavy lift vessel Orion, capable of installing large monopiles with a crane that has a 5,000-ton lift capacity, a robust motion compensation gripper, and a large deck space with various other equipment, will carry out the installation. For the TPs, it is likely that the Apollo will handle this task. Jan de Nul has been awarded the contract for the inter-array cables for the projects. Offshore work is expected to begin in 2026 and continue into 2027, with the project expected to be fully connected to the grid by 2028.
