The jack-up vessel Wind Discovery is heading back to Europe, bolstering the offshore operation and maintenance fleet.

Wind Discovery has operated under various names since it was first called Wind Discovery. Now, it has reclaimed its original name and is returning to its roots. The jack-up vessel, built in 2011 in China, was initially delivered to the MPI Offshore fleet. Since then, the vessel has worked for several companies, operating in Europe, Taiwan, and most recently, China.

Now, the vessel is heading back to Europe, where it will join the Ziton fleet. Wind Discovery will be a valuable addition to Ziton’s fleet, as it is a suitable vessel for O&M (operation and maintenance) work. Its sister vessel, MPI Adventure, is extensively used in this segment and continues to be operated by MPI Offshore/Van Oord.

Ziton has undergone significant changes over the years and faced challenging times. However, it remains a resilient company, holding a leading position in the offshore wind industry and focusing exclusively on offshore wind O&M services. As the number of operational turbines grows, the demand for maintenance increases. Without dedicated vessels, power production can drop significantly, leading to lower revenue streams over extended periods.

This growing demand, coupled with Ziton’s new ownership, allows the company to expand its fleet by acquiring additional vessels, such as Wind Discovery, which will further strengthen its capabilities in the O&M sector.
