Contracts have been signed with KEPCO for grid connections totaling 6GW of floating offshore wind projects.
South Korea is making swift progress in the development of floating offshore wind projects. On October 10th, five consortiums signed contracts with KEPCO for grid connection. This is a significant step forward and brings South Korea closer to adding 6GW of renewable energy from floating projects to its power grid. All projects are located off the coast of Ulsan, where both local and foreign developers are collaborating to develop this 6GW capacity, distributed across seven different projects.
The developers and projects in the Ulsan floating wind cluster include:
- Equinor
- Firefly (750MW)
- Equinor, KNOC, Korea East West Power
- Donghae 1 (200MW)
- TotalEnergies, SK Ecoplant, Corio Generation
- Gray Whale (1500MW)
- Ocean Winds, Mainstream Renewable Power
- KFWind 1 & 2 (750MW)
- KFWind East Blue Power (EBP) (375MW)
- SK E&S, CIP
- Haewoori (1500MW)
- Hexicon Korea
