Siemens Gamesa turbines are being prepared at Mokpo Port for offshore transport and installation for the Jeonnam Sinnan Phase 1 offshore wind project, developed in collaboration between SK E&S and CIP.
At Mokpo Port, several SG-10.0-193 nacelles and other equipment are standing ready for extraction, which will be carried out by the Hyundai Frontier jack-up vessel. The first phase of the Jeonnam Sinnan project is small but significant, as it utilizes large-scale turbines, which will be the largest in South Korea to date.
The project has a capacity of 96 MW, which isn’t much when compared to European projects. However, what has been demonstrated by this project is that South Korea has a capable platform to supply equipment and components on the same scale as advanced offshore wind markets. There is definitely a learning curve, but large-scale projects in South Korea will quickly follow using the same platform employed by Jeonnam Sinnan Phase 1.
