France announces results of long awaited floating project in Brittany
The results from the AO5 French auction rounds have been announced, awarding the 250 MW floating offshore wind project off the coast of southern Brittany to the consortia BayWa r.e and Elicio. The floating project, named Pennavel, is expected to be operational in 2031, with construction estimated between 2028-2029.
This is the first win for both developers in France, marking their entry into the French offshore wind market. When operational in 2031, the Pennavel project will be among the largest operational floating windfarm in France, matching the floating projects expected in the Mediterranean Sea. France is expected to significantly ramp up its offshore wind build-out, currently scoping out new areas for future projects, with additional details expected later this year.
