The Australian Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environmnet and Water has announced a public consultation round for the proposed Bass Straight offshore wind area.

The area is located north of the island of Tasmania, ranging from 20km and 50km from the coast. The area marks the fifth location proposed opened for offshore wind development, following the Gippsland, Hunter, Southern Ocean, and Illawarra zones. Several developers have already revealed project proposals in the Bass Straight area, including Mistral Energy, and a partnership between Nexsphere and Equinor. The public consultation round will run from October 24. to January 31. 2024.
