Area reserved for offshore wind development to be split, paving the way for 3-4 sites to be put up for auction

The Estonian Government is proposing to hold auction rounds for 3-4 sites located in their offshore wind development zones. After having received a number of applications for location licenses, the authorities are now looking to reward sites based on monetary auctions. The rounds are currently set to open in September, and close in November.

Developers seeking to partake in the auction round can submit applications beginning in March. Any previous applications for location licenses must also be resubmitted. Previously, interested developers have included Mainstream, Total and RWE.

Timi Tatar, Secretary General of the Ministry if Economic Affairs and Communications has stated that details on the rounds are expected to be announced at the beginning of March.
