After having recently opened the Illawarra and South Ocean offshore renewable areas for public consultation, the Australian government is aiming to open the Bass Strait and Perth/Bunbury areas by end of the year

The Australian Minister of Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen has announced plans to open the Bass Strait region and the Perth/Bunbury region for public consultation in October and November, seeking input from developers and local stakeholders in order to develop offshore energy projects. This will be the sixth area proposed for potential offshore wind development in Australia. In addition to the Illawarra and South Coast areas currently undergoing consultation, a feasibility license round was held for the Gippsland area located off the coast of Victoria, with results expected by the end of the year. The Hunter coast area is currently open for applications for licenses, with a deadline in mid-November.
