Ørsted has announced the German project Gode Wind 3 has entered commercial operation, adding the first offshore wind project in the German North Sea since 2023.

After completing final testing on February 28, Ørsted has announced the German North Sea project Gode Wind 3 has entered commercial operation. The project features 23 of Siemens Gamesa SG-11.0-200 turbine and adds 253 MW to Germanys existing capacity of 8.5 GW. The announcement marks the first time a project with 11 MW turbines is operational in Germany.

Gode Wind 3 is the first offshore wind project entering commercial operation in the German North Sea since Arcadis Ost 1 at the end of 2023. Additional capacity is expected added in 2025, with a COD for He Dreiht expected by the end of the year.

The project has been steadily brought online since first power in April of 2024. Initial power generation data from Gode Wind 3 indicates a well-performing asset, showing off a high-capacity factor in the first weeks and months of 2025. This is a potentially good sign for Ørsted other new project in the area, Borkum Riffgrund 3, also sporting the same model of 11 MW Siemens Gamesa turbines.

Gode Wind 3 is one for the last closer-to-shore smaller scale projects in the German North Sea expected to be built, except for the Nordseecluster projects. Germany is moving into a phase with a built out of many larger scale 1000 MW+ projects over 80 km from shore.
