Offshore wind projects see CfD contracts awarded, after two year wait.
The UK Government has announced the results of the Allocation Round 6, awarding Contract for Difference (CfD) to renewable energy projects. 10 offshore wind projects were successful in securing contracts, with 9 being for fixed and 1 being for floating. The winners are:
The clearing price for this year’s round ended at 54.23 £/MWh for new offshore win projects and 58.87 £/MWh for Permitted Reduction projects. The big winners of the round are Ørsted with the Hornsea projects, securing CfDs for a total of 3480 MW, and Iberdrola – ScottishPower Renewables , with the East Anglia Projects, securing a total of 1122 MW.
Authorities in the UK have the last year considerably increased the subsidies on offer, after criticism of the industry in the wake of last year’s round, AR5, where no offshore wind projects were awarded CfDs. The success in this year’s round is seen as critical to get projects operational to contribute to the UKs 2030 target of 50 GW offshore wind capacity. The next allocation round, AR7, is set to kick off next year.
