In latest push for offshore wind, new site declared open to bids from developers.
The Australian Government has declared the area in the Indian Ocean off Bunbury in Western Australia as an offshore wind development zone. The site, located 30 km off the coast of Bunbury, has the potential of up to 11.4 GW of project capacity and is the 5th area declared as an offshore wind development zone in the country. With the move, the country is seeking to build on an already impressive pipeline of projects, showing strong ambitions for offshore wind development and proving to become a new hotspot of activity for the industry in the next decade.
Feasibility license applications will run from 3 September to 6 November 2024 and the results will hopefully be announced next year. Several developers have already proposed projects in the vicinity of the now declared sites, making them possible candidates for feasibility license applications. The developers include:
Copenhagen Energy
Floatation Energy
OceanEx Energy
Skyborn Renewables/ Australis Energy
