Seeking to reach the 2030 targets, Germany opens two new sites for bids

After the successful auction round decided by negative bidding in 2023, Germany has launched a new round, offering a total of 2500 MW to developers. The two sites, both located in the North Sea, have an estimated capacity of 1000 MW and 1500 MW, with CODs set for the later half of 2031. The tender concerns sites not previously centrally examined, meaning that the successful bidder is responsible for all site investigations.

The 2023 rounds resulted in total proceeds of 12.6 billion euros, with O&G giants TotalEnergies and bp securing two sites each.

An additional round for 5500 MW will be put up for auction by March 1, 2024. The tender concerns three areas previously centrally examined, with a COD by the end of 2029.

The deadline for bids for the first round is set to June 1, 2024, with results expected before end of summer.
