Following the first offshore wind auction hosted in Estonia, CIP and Ignitis Renewables secures their largest project in the region yet.
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and Ignitis Renewables have secured a 1400 MW project area in Estonia, after winning the bidding round for the Liivi 2 site in the Gulf of Riga. This is the first auction round hosted in Estonia, with two more expected to follow. Liivi 2 is the largest offshore wind project awarded through an auction round in Estonia to date. The project will have a maximum of 88 turbines and is expected to have a COD post 2030.
CIP and Ignitis are also qualified to bid for the adjacent Liivi 1 site, where the auction will be hosted on Jan 17. 2024 and they have expressed interest in the Saare 1 site, an innovation area located 55 km west of the Island of Saaremaa.
2023 marks an active year for both Ignitis Renewables and CIP in the Baltics. Ignitis won the first offshore wind round in Lithuania in July, together with Ocean Winds, securing a 700 MW project site. In addition to interest in the overmentioned bidding rounds, CIP is exploring additional three projects in Estonia, all located off the west coast of Saaremaa.
